In Kate's opinion, she'd never been that good of a mother.. having been one while she was still in her teenage years, there had been a lot of recklessness involved, and mistakes, and whatnot.. she was always forgetting this and that, always feeling as if she never made Jack happy enough.. but she'd been working on it, honestly. Ever since she'd arrived in Bear Creek, Katharine had been spending more time on the needs of her son, and on protecting him.. she had no clue if they were still looking for her..
On this particular day, she wasn't playing it as safe as she usually would.. but Jack hated the indoors, and Kate didn't want to upset him on keeping him in the house on this beautiful a day. Clad in jeans and a black "The Who" t-shirt, not to mention her huge, dark sunglasses, Katharine had taken Jack to the park, where they resided on a blanket laid out on the grass, Kate with a book to read and Jack with a few toys to play with.
Jack's small hand clasped itself around a patch of grass and pulled with all his might until the grass detached from the ground and the child had fallen backwards from the force. Giggling a little, the boy sat up and looked towards Kate with a questioning expression, holding the handful of grass up to his open mouth and stuffing it all in.
"That's cute Jack.. but we don't eat grass. I'm sorry, kid," she murmured with a small laugh, tickling his stomach playfully as she watched the boy's expression turn from amused to digusted. She laughed again, giving him a knowing expression. "See? I told you so."
As Jack slowly pulled the grass out of his mouth, Kate stood up and stretched, then held her hand out for the boy to take as she began to walk towards a nearby slide.. Jack got up quickly and followed close behind, never actually taking his mother's hand for his blue eyes had grown wide with excitement once they'd set upon the slide before them.
"Mmmmaaaa, daa tetetete.." he rambled on as his short legs took step after step towards the slide, just behind his mother.. Katharine smiled at his attempt to make conversation.. Jackson never really spoke when in the presence of anyone but herself, but it was good that he was trying.. they'd been working on the whole speech thing for what seemed like ages. It was a two-steps-forward, one-step-back sort of deal. According to Jack when he'd been a year old, the cow said 'Moo'. According to Jack presently, the cow now said 'Ba da!'.
She had no idea how his speech could have slurred, but according to other parents, it was common. Jack was still interested in experiencing sounds, and right and wrong. Though it was still a bit aggravating for Kate to have to teach her son what the cow said, all over again.
Once the two of them reached the slide, Katharine picked the baby up and set him at the top, instructing him to hold onto the sides as she positioned herself crouched at the bottom of the slide, arms held out to catch him once he made it to the bottom. "Ready, set.. gooooo!" She exclaimed with a wide smile as Jack slid himself down, giggling uncontrollably at the event which had just taken place.
"Lookit you, cutie! You're a master at sliding!"

The small dark chocolate haired toddler wandered down the well worn path, his steps a bit wobbly but strong for his age.A few feet behind him hurried a tall thin figure,a male, who was trying desperately to catch up without running, because he knew that would only make the toddler go faster,as he had found out a few weeks back.
William was a nice kid,he minded his father even though he was barely three years old, just turned a few days back.He was very curious though, and took in everything with his big ice blue eyes, that reflected his mother so.Wyatt missed that girl, despite the pain she called him,and sometimes he would find himself gazing at his son,or more so at his eyes.Even though he was a boy,William looked remarkably like his mother,he had her eyes for example and her dark brown hair,he also got her slim figure, and lacked the baby fat that most three year olds still had.
"William please be good for daddy." Wyatt pleaded, finally scooping up the youngster, holding him firm in his arms.Wyatt was dressed in a simple thin black long-sleeved and jeans, and hadn`t taken off his reading glasses from when he had tried to read, but was interrupted by William, who wanted to go to the park.William was wearing a pair of small jeans, and a red tee-shirt with a picture of a toy truck on it. He was into the whole trucks and outdoors now,but Wyatt could tell he wasn`t sure what he liked yet.
He placed a playful kiss upon Williams rosy cheek and straddled him onto his left hip.The blue eyed William simply giggled and patted his fathers face.Wyatt turned his head,to avoid being hit in the face and laughed softly."Don`t hurt daddy now."
"No hurt !" William proclaimed.William was small for his age,Wyatt smiled and nodded his head."Down daddy.Down !" William proclaimed wriggling slightly.Wyatt sighed and put him down, but held onto his small hand to ensure that he wouldn`t try to escape again.William was oblivious and pulled his dad around the park, and all Wyatt could do was follow.
It wasn`t his choice to have a son at 19,but he wouldn`t give William back for the world. His mother was far gone by now,and Wyatt wasn`t sure where she went, and he was pretty much sure he would have a few words to exchange if she ever came back. And they most likely wouldn`t be words of love.Wyatt had grown up in the three years he had taken care of his son,and he was quite proud of himself, even though he had to work really hard to give Will everything he needed.
"Toys." William whimpered, looking at a blanket that was littered with toys. But he knew what was his and wasn`t.He pouted slightly, tugging at his fathers arm."Toys,: he said again, his lower lip stuck out into a pout.Wyatt shook his head with a low laugh and bent down so he was eye level with his son."Those aren`t yours buddy...I know you want to play with them though." William only pouted further. His expression was pouty and bright eyes solemn. With a light sigh William sat down on his bottom and poked at the grass, while Wyatt watched curiously.

As Kate spoke to Jack, she couldn't help but notice that the blonde-haired boy was hardly listening.. although his beautiful smile was still intact, a smile that resembled Katharine's own down to a 'T', the boy's blue eyes had drifted off to where his blanket and toys were located, and his brows raised in excitement. "Aba nnnnnnemmeee!" he cried, just as his mother turned her head to see what he was pointing at.. another little boy and his father, located close to the blanket.
"You wanna go play with them, Jack?" She asked sweetly, taking the boy's hand in hers as he hopped down from the slide and began to walk in the direction of the other two.. the slide had really only been about fifteen feet or so away from the blanket, not too far.. pretty soon Jackson's feet had quickened their pace and he extended a chubby finger towards the toys.
"Mine!" The word escaped the boy's mouth bluntly and in the utmost childish manner, but Kate wasn't surprised.. he was a somewhat selfish child, having had no other siblings [or child contact, for that matter] for the most of his life.. and Kate was not about to have another kid.. not in the situation she was in. Who knew? At any given moment, she could completely disappear from the face of the earth.. and either turn up dead, or under a complete different name and personality and appearance. She could hardly take on the responsibility of Jack, having been a single mom at nineteen.. that was tough. She'd never had much going for her, not since she'd been taken in by Tony and made a criminal.. you can't achieve much with a criminal record. Kate was learning that the hard way.
Still, there were things still worth escaping. She missed Covey to death, but she knew she shouldn't have.. that wasn't even his name. He wasn't the man she'd thought him to be. And the scary part was, what if Jack turned out the same as his parents? They'd been involved in such crazy things.. and Jack was almost a clone of Katharine.. almost. He looked like her [minus the hair and eyes], and acted like her.. just like her. What if he turned out just like his mother? Or his father? She only wanted the best for her son - and nothing less.
Once the two of them had reached the blanket, Kate watched as Jack made his way to a pile of toy cars and picked two up. Holding one against his chest, he blurted again, "Mine!" before handing the other car out to the boy and giving him a concerned look, as if he'd cry if the child didn't take it.

William eyed the cars with a slight longing, his bright blue eyes sad and pleading.Wyatt watched, trying to hide a smile.Lifting his gaze he settled upon the figures of a woman, and perhaps her son or maybe her little brother.Wyatt couldn`t quite tell. She looked young, but then again,so was Wyatt.William let out a soft squeal, scrambling backward as the other little boy told him that those were his toys. Will never really was the most confidant boy in the world,a fact that Wyatt couldn`t help but blame himself for.
Will peered at the other toddler, from behind his fathers leg, hands clutching the fabric of Wyatt`s jeans. He looked like he might just cry,but he wouldn`t,Will never cried in front of anyone but Wyatt. When the other offered him a toy,he took a hesitant step forward, then looked to his father.Wyatt nodded softly encouraging Will to take it."Go ahead." he murmured.William held out a small hand to accept the toy.
Wyatt watched his boy,a slight sadness settling over his features. But it was a sort of bittersweet sadness.Wyatt never got out much, and therefore Will never really met any children around his age group. It was nice to see him interact a little with another child.Wyatt stuffed his hand into his back jean pockets, standing hesitantly on the balls of his feet, not taking his gaze from William. The fact was he too never interacted much, and wasn`t that sociable,or more like he wasn`t sure how.

Jack was overjoyed as the other boy accepted his car, and he placed the toy into the child's hands, his own blue eyes shifting up to his face to study him. "Caaaaaaaar!" he informed the boy in an intrigued sort of manner, a small smile returning to his face. Then he held out his own car, a green one, and flew it in the air as if it were flying.. or racing, or whatever. "Car goes vroom!" Well, at least Jack was aware of one thing.. that the car did not say 'Ba da', like the cow, or the horse, or the cat, but did indeed say something else, such as 'vroom'. Maybe it was a boy thing. Kate was sure she hadn't taught Jack what the car said just yet.. or maybe she had? It was as if boys and men were born with the knowledge of anything mechanical.
Realizing she hadn't even addressed herself or her son just yet, Kate took in a deep breath and averted her gaze to the man standing before her. Pulling her hands out of her jean pockets, the woman extended one out to the man and gave him a friendly smile.
"I'm sorry," she murmured, with a slight laugh and shake of the head, "I should introduce myself.. I'm Kate." She hadn't even bothered to pull her sunglasses off and away from her emerald eyes.. but she wouldn't, not for a while at least... she was so used to the sunglasses being there, that they were almost like a barrier for her. They protected her from any danger or evil.. like a shield. She always wore them - always. Even when she was in class, teaching, she had the sunglasses resting upon her head.. the students always joked that she couldn't part from them, and the truth was, really - she couldn't. She just.. didn't feel safe without them.
"And that's Jack." She nodded her head to the little boy, her smile widening. She wondered whether she should inform the man that it was her son she'd been referring to.. she looked so young, that many were astonished whenever they heard this fact.. a brother maybe, or a nephew, but a son? It was just unthinkable..

A bright smile lit up his face and Will immediately copied the sound."Vroom !" he crowed, motioning the car through the air much like the other boy had. Will was always a good speaker, his words were clear,or as clear as he could if he didn`t know how to pronounce it."Vroom !" he said again, his eyes alight with curiosity. Then as an afterthought he added quietly as he was taught "Tank two."Wyatt smiled.
Murky brown/green optics reluctantly left his son and landed on the form of the female. She wore sunglasses, which really wasn`t unusual, but it made Wyatt feel a tad bit uncomfortable. He liked to study people, their eyes, expression,it helped him when he talked to them.He eyed her head for one moment before he shook it,and let a gentle smile slide over his face."I`m Wyatt." he said quickly, shifting slightly on his feet."And this is William." he motioned to the brown haired toddler who was now entranced with the car,and absently made car noises.
"Daddy look-it car !" Will exclaimed walking slowly to Wyatt and thrusting the car upward."It goes Vroom !" he exclaimed.Wyatt smiled and kneeled down."That`s my boy.You like cars ?" Will nodded excitedly and scurried back to play with Jack.Wyatt straightened up and looked to Kate and smiled slightly."He has a thing for cars..." he said a smile tugging at his lips.William always loved to show his father things, and loved Wyatt to death. He threw a fit whenever Wyatt had to go to work and left him with a babysitter.

Kate gave Wyatt's hand a firm shake before letting go of her grasp and hanging her thumbs on the edges of her pockets - a habit, if anything. "Pleasure," she murmured in reply with a wide smile, the exact same of the one which Jack wore as well as he played with his car on the blanket.. it was uncanny, really. It was often that Kate thanked the Lord [or whoever it was who lived up there] that Jack looked almost exactly like her.. and then less of his father.. which made it easier for her to cope with the loss of Covey.. and also would sidetrack Tony [if he ever learned of Jack], who might not ever guess that Covey had been the father of her son.
She wasn't the best mother in the world - really. There were times when Kate realized how much she didn't know her son.. what he did and didn't like to eat, his favorite toys or television shows, or his favorite color.. you know, simple things that a parent should know, were things that Kate was oblivious of. It was like a horrible guilt trip.. how could she spend so much time with Jack and know nothing about him? She'd raised him single handedly for his entire life, and she still had yet to figure out his favorite bedtime story.
It was embarassing for her to admit that she and her son were almost complete strangers.. just as it was that, she'd had a child at such a young age. Everyone seemed to deem teenage parents irresponsible these days.. and maybe that's what she'd been - irresponsible. But, an irresponsible woman, if anything. The buisness in which she'd been associated with had caused Kate to grow up quite a lot... therefore, the irresponsible part, had been sleeping with the enemy. Kind of like Romeo and Juliet. Only, this time, Juliet killed Romeo.. and then ran off with his kid.
"Jack loves them too.. but I guess superheroes are more of his thing," she replied to Wyatt's comment, her gaze shifting down to the two children as they played.. her mind reeling over one small fact - William, calling Wyatt 'Daddy'. Daddy? The man standing before her certainly didn't look like a father.. then again, Katharine wasn't the best at character judgement.. even though, once upon a time, it'd been a part of her job.
She didn't sense any immediate danger standing there with Wyatt and the two kids.. although she didn't conciously look for danger wherever she went - it was just a.. really, really bad habit. Convincing herself that she wouldn't die taking the sunglasses off for a little while, the woman glanced around herself and slowly reached up, pulling the sunglasses away from her face and onto the top of her head and exposing her melancholy jade eyes.
"Woah.." she exclaimed with a laugh, squinting at the brightness of the day.. geeze, sunglasses could really distort your vision..

Wyatt turned to look at the boys for a moment before he once more focused his murky brown gaze upon her. When he released her hand he put his hands into his back pockets, something he did almost unconsciously when he met new people-which was pretty rare-Life wasn`t always easy for Wyatt, and in turn that meant life wasn`t easy for Will.Wyatt was very thankful that Will was so quiet,he rarely got angry or anything and usually the extent of his bad behavior would be wanting to cuddle to much.William was the most important thing in Wyatt`s life, and he found himself wondering how he could have ever lived without Will.
William gently rolled the car over the grass, making sounds under his breath. He wasn`very social, but he did like to meet new people every so often."Vhroom." he murmured, getting up and walking closer to Jack.
"Superheros." Wyatt chuckled."Will went through that stage when he was about two.Of course that was only about six months ago...so I wouldn`t be surprised if he suddenly liked them again." He winced slightly,he had the habit of talking to much when it came to his son.It was just something that happened overtime,he just could not only say one sentence about his son.
Wyatt bit his lip slightly, watching as Will tripped and fell, but he got right back up and was fine.William never really showed when he got hurt.Wyatt chuckled slightly as she took off her sunglasses, and absently adjusted his reading glasses, toying with the idea of taking them off,but seeing no reason to.

Feeling something tugging on the bottom of her jeans, Kate looked down to see Jack standing beside her, arms outstretched. "Up!" he cried, wiggling his little body anxiously.. and within a millisecond, the woman had swooped him up into her arms.
"Jack, why don't you go play with your friend?" Katharine asked the boy curiously, motioning to William with her free hand. "His name is William. And that's William's daddy.. can you say 'hi'?" Smiling a little, Kate brushed away his hair from his face, giving the boy an encouraging look.. Jack wasn't exactly vocal, but he was learning.. and he knew his manners.
A shy 'hiiii' was emitted from the boy's mouth as he waved to Wyatt, and with that, Kate set him back down on the ground. "Go play with William," she suggested with a cheesey smile, but Jack resisted with a stubborn, "No!". He wasn't used to other company, obviously.. but Katharine was determined to make him used to it.
"Yes," she replied sternly, and then turned her full attention back on Wyatt, as Jack turned around and, sure enough, continued playing cars with William.
"I have to admit, superheroes are pretty neat. But Jack never lets me play Batman.. I always have to be Wonder Woman. In his words, 'Mommy's a giirrrrrrrl!'" She chuckled, shrugging a bit.. Kate never knew whether to take it as a compliment or not. Was Jack indicating that he thought his mother was a wonder-woman? Or did he just think that she should play a woman, because she was a woman? The latter was more likely, but there were times when Kate really wished that Jack thought she was something like a wonder-woman, herself.

Wyatt smiled at Jack and chuckled slightly. Will was almost the same way,he really wasn`t vocal unless he was excited. He was the exact opposite of his mother, quiet and reserved, where as his mother was reckless and foolish, which resulted in William himself.Wyatt smiled at Jack and chuckled slightly. Will was almost the same way,he really wasn`t vocal unless he was excited. He was the exact opposite of his mother, quiet and reserved, where as his mother was reckless and foolish, which resulted in William himself.Wyatt watched the two interact, and found himself wishing that Cali had actually stayed around.William could have used his mother.Wyatt laughed slightly as Jack protested to playing with Will, but then again Will wasn't always the most social kid.
"I was always Batman,Will had this obsession with Robin." Wyatt said with a slight smile." I was glad when he finally grew out of that, now he`s moved on to trucks and trains."
Wyatt tilted his head slightly,so she was a young parent too. It`s a small world.Wyatt had never really met anyone who was in the same boat as himself, raising a kid when they themselves were just past that stage. He wondered if she was alone to,but pushed the thought out of his mind.He didn`t need anything else to remind him that Cali had left him,and Will, just hours after William was born.

"Lucky," she muttered in a joking fashion, "Batman's so cool. He's the one that flies, right?" Kate had to admit, it was a little weird to be having a conversation concerning superheroes with another adult.. but, quite honestly, she was a kid at heart - and was really enjoying the conversation. Really, how often did you have a conversation about Batman? She never had.. even though she'd tried to discuss Jack's Batman craze with him, the boy never listened.. instead, just pointed the Wonder Woman figure at his mother and screamed until she took it from him.
"No wait, that's Superman." Alright, so she wasn't that up-to-date with the superheroes.. really. The most she knew of were the three involved with the discussion, and she didn't even know what their powers were or whatever.. only that, she would've rather had fallen in love with Superman instead of the man she had loved.
Shifting her gaze down to the boys, Kate grinned as Jack picked up another car, so both of his hands contained one each.. then ran around the blanket with them up in the air, flying them around while making a "Vvvvvvvvsssssshhhhh" sort of sound.. it was amazing how well kids could get along.. especially boys. They never really had to say much in order to play together.. where, in the case of a little girl, she'd be much more weary before accepting.
Looking back up at Wyatt, Kate smiled wider and met his gaze. "So.. are you from around here?" She asked politely, having noticed that many people in Bear Creek, Texas were - surprisingly enough - new to the area.. including herself.

Wyatt laughed and his murky brown optics lit up for a fraction of a second.Usually the conversations about superheros was limited to ."Will Rwobin !!Daddy Batman...." before Will was off babbling about Robin. Wyatt had a whole collection of Batman movies and cartoons, that were now deserted in the corner as Will moved from interest to interest.Every so often Wyatt found himself wishing he had more time to grow up.The moment he held his son in his hands,he was sobered,he set his priorities straight and he grew up.
Wyatt couldn`t believe how attached to his son he was.He would give his life for that kid,die for him.And the thought scared him.He always had his doubts upon how good a parent he was. When Will got sick,or hurt, the doubts just came thicker and faster. When William threw a fit,Wyatt had to wonder what he did wrong. But he was working through it,and along the way he found out a few things about himself that he probably never would have had it not been for William.
A sad smiled pained his face when she asked the question."No,uhm actually I`m from Ohio,me and Will got here a few weeks ago." His tone was tinged with the sadness of remembrance, remembering Cali, the first love of his life no matter how wild she was.

"Ah, you're a newbie. Just like me," she teased with a wide grin, eyebrows raising in slight curiosity. She'd been to Ohio once - Boise, actually, when she and Uncle Tony had been hiding out from a rather messy situation which'd caused them to keep from the police.. how they'd escaped, Katharine never really knew. "Jack and I just moved here too, from.." she paused for a moment, uncertain of whether she should admit the truth or not.. what if it slipped out, that she was from Seattle? If Tony found her here, it'd only provide as evidence.. and therefore, woldn't benefit Kate in any shape, way or form.
"..Minnesota." Okay, she'd never been to Minnesota.. ever. And, it was a rather horrible lie, if you asked Kate.. a very horrible lie. For one, she didn't even have the Minnesotan accent - you know, the long 'Ooooooo's' and things like that, but not all Minnesotans had that specific accent.. and then again, they didn't have a Ukrainian one either. It may have been thirteen years since Katharine had been living in Ukraine, but the accent had remained.. you could still catch it every once and a while when she spoke.
However, Kate was, seemingly, a master at lying.. the word 'Minnesota' had slipped out of her mouth without hesitation.. and she knew how to cover up her tracks. After all, how likely was it that Wyatt knew anything about the state, anyway? Not that she knew everything about him.. but it was a far stretch from possible.

His lips twitched upward, but the smile just didn`t reach his mixed hued eyes.He swallowed heavily and pushed the thoughts to the back of his mind.He had William and that was all that mattered, for now.
"Minnesota ?" he asked, eyebrows raised."Never been there..." he said softly. His face lit up into a very small smile and he shook his head.He hadn`t been many places, sure he had wandered about Ohio for a while before he took the drive all the way here, but really he hadn`t been anywhere. He never did like to travel,he liked to be somewhere definite, none of the 'We`re halfway to here,or almost there crap.He needed to feel like he was somewhere, somewhere real and not in between.
He shifted slightly on his feet, pulling his hand out of his back pockets to snatch his reading glasses off his face and slide them into his pocket,in one smooth motion. He let a very soft smile spread upon his lips, one that reached his eye,as he looked to Will who was studying a car intently, his blue gaze fixated upon the small toy and his thin fingers pushing the car around the grass as he sat upon his knees.

Kate smiled as Wyatt admitted having never been to Minnesota. "Nice place," she murmured, "But a little too cold for my taste." Alright, so, she was really digging a grave for herself right now.. really. How long would she go on, making up stories of her 'life in Minnesota'? She may've been a convincing woman, but she didn't do her research.. which was why, she immediately made a change of subject.
"Anyway," she murmured, feeling slightly uncomfortable with herself now.. stuffing her hands in her pockets, Kate looked down at the boys as well, watching them play with their little toy cars.. so innocent and oblivious, they were. Kate could remember when she was around their age.. how she'd had absolutely no idea what was coming her way, what she had in store for herself.. it was a bit overwhelming, actually. There were days when she wished she could completely erase her life and start all over again.. but, what good would that do her? She wouldn't have become the woman she was now.. perhaps she'd be a worse person, if that was possible. And she wouldn't have Jack.. her amazing, beautiful son.. the only thing that mattered to her in the entire world.
Jack was her life.
Looking back up at Wyatt, Kate was startled when she noticed that he'd taken his glasses off.. well, it wasn't that exactly.. it was that, she was able to see his eyes more clearly. Smiling a little, the woman glanced down at William curiously. "Does his mother live with you?" Alright, the question was a bit nosey.. but she was deeply curious, and she meant it in the utmost respectable manner.. as always. Kate was one of the most polite girls ever.. and never meant to harm anyone or anything.

His expression faltered for one moment, pain flowing freely through his optics before he blinked, and expression was stoic once more.He swallowed heavily, and turned his gaze toward his son as a momentary distraction.Bad move, his son looked a lot like his mother. With a slight shake of his head he let his gaze focus on her once more."Ah,no..she`s...not ...I`m actually not to sure where she is right now." he admitted, his tone level, but a slight hint of pain creeping into the shadows around it,steeling himself against the stab of pain that would follow.
Cali, though she was a wild girl, had been his life for a few short years. But when she had left William with him, after only a few hours after he was delivered,it had hurt.It put her into a new light, because Wyatt had never truly thought she would abandon her son.Or him.But she had and Wyatt knew he could never stop loving her,but he`d never be able to forgive her.Cali did give him William,a fact he was immensely grateful of.The painful memories did not cease though.
Once divided...nothing left to subtract... Some words when spoken...can't be taken back... Walks on his own...with thoughts he can't help thinking... Future's above...but in the past he's slow and sinking... Caught a bolt 'a lightnin'...cursed the day he let it go...
"Wyatt you didn`t really think I`d stay here ?" A slim brunette teenager said, her voice high in anger. "I thought you would ! You have a son Cali ! A son !" A younger version of Wyatt spat back, the baby boy cradled cautiously in his arms. "I can`t Wyatt, and you know it." She said, her voice calmer, gentle even. "Just,..stay...I`ll take care of him...just don`t,don`t leave." "Let me go Wyatt ,just please." "Cali..no he`s your son ! I can`t do this on my own..I can`t !" his voice broke on the last syllable. "Wyatt." she said softly, her voice final, kissing him gently upon the lips before disappearing into the airport.Wyatt looked down to the small bundle of blankets in his arms, then back at her retreating figure, watching her walk away from him.And he knew he`d never see her again.
Wyatt was forced back to the present, although it had merely been a millisecond after he had spoken. He swallowed hard, and blinked the pain that he knew was breaking through the facade he put up,and gave her a small smile
occ Italics is a memory..and bold is a song by Pearl Jam...xD

Her eyes kept on Wyatt as she awaited his answer, a sudden pang of guilt hitting her chest.. she'd hurt him, she could tell. She shouldn't have even brought up the subject.. her mind was reeling with ways to make it up to him, to comfort him.. but she just didn't know what to do.
"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to offend you.. I-I j-just.." her voice failed her for that brief moment and she gave Wyatt a guilty look, having felt bad for causing the pain she'd seen on his face.. she hated causing other people pain. Glancing down at the boys, Kate bit her lip and wondered what to say.. she wasn't the best at condolences.. what was the purpose? All they were was the repetition of 'I'm so sorry' over and over again.. surely, Wyatt was sick of hearing that phrase by now. Kate knew that if she'd been in his situation, she would've been, too.
Searching for something to say in the back of her mind, the woman's eyes lowered to the ground and she bit her lip lightly. "Jack's dad died before he was born." It was true - not entirely, but mostly. Seemingly, she and her son had more in common than the usual mother-child pair.. although, Jack hadn't lost his mother yet, and Kate certainly wasn't planning on that happening any time soon.
The emotion shown in her eyes was far from false - they emitted hurt and anger, but it wasn't for reasons one might think.. she was hurt, because of the person Covey had been. He'd told her he was a student, at Juliard. He'd told her he worked at a small cafe in Manhatten. He'd told her lie after lie after lie.. and she'd completely fallen for him. How had he known? Had it been Covey's plan all along? To pull her into his trap, to cast his spell on her.. usually, it was Kate doing the spell-casting.. and somehow, she'd allowed herself to get caught. She hated him.. hated him so, so much. And yet, she loved him.. and she'd never stop. Was it even possible to love and hate someone at the same time, the way she loved and hated Covey?

Wyatt realized his pain had showed and he winced. He hated showing pain, but he guessed he could never fully avoid. He never really told anyone about Cali,he did not have any friends to tell anyways. But he felt a bit better that someone else besides him knew. Not a lot,but a little.
He sucked in his breath, and couldn`t find the words to convey what he felt.Death was so much more permanent than going away.Wyatt had never really experienced the death of anyone close, and he would never want to.He just couldn`t find the words,an I`m sorry was to generic, and anything else he said would sound stupid,so he stayed silent, but his piercing gaze showed sympathy.
"That`s got to be hard." he said, knowing he was most likely making it worse, but he couldn`t help it.He couldn`t just stay silent. He swallowed some of his pain,it wasn`t right for him to be wallowing in his own pain when so many others had pain far beyond his-a fact that he couldn`t comprehend because he could not imagine a greater pain-.

At Wyatt's words, Kate's eyes squinted a little and she nodded a bit, folding her arms uncomfortably across her chest.. Covey wasn't a subject she brought up - ever.. and when she even just thought of him, it was like her heart broke all over again.. it'd been enough to kill the one she'd loved.. but it'd been over the top when she'd found out she was carrying his kid.
"Let's go somewhere," she suggested after a moment of silence, her somber eyes finally drifting back up to Wyatt, although she didn't dare look him in the eyes. "I think Jack's getting a bit tired -" she shrugged her shoulder closest to her little boy, who was now sitting down on the blanket with his car in one hand, and rubbing his eyes with the other. "- and I have someone coming to babysit in a little while." Katharine couldn't afford much, but a babysitter was something she made sure she could afford.. she loved Jack, really, but she needed her time away from the boy.. which was why, three evenings out of the entire week, Jack was taken off of Kate's hands so she could go figure things out and set things straight.
Although going somewhere with Wyatt wasn't exactly 'straightening things out', she needed company.. Kate rarely spoke to anyone but the kids and staff at the high school, and it was beginning to take a toll on her.

"Sure..." Wyatt said,a bit surprised at the turn of subjects, but he hid it."But,I ah,I don`t have a babysitter for William," he continued shifting on his feet.He never really needed a babysitter for William.Once in a while but nothing regular.
When he worked he brought Will and had someone there watch him-they always did and could never resist the toddlers charm-.Wyatt hated to leave him alone, because he felt that somehow William knew he had been betrayed and left by his mother. He knew it was impossible but it didn`t stop the feeling. And his heart broke every so often when William would absently say 'Momma,' or point to a women with a baby with an excited look.Though he had to admit, being with Will every second of the day,no matter how reserved he was,was tiring and Wyatt practically collapsed in bed when William was finally asleep.

As Wyatt spoke, Kate bent down so she was on her knees and began picking up the toys on the blanket, having noticed the sky growing slightly darker. "It's okay.." she replied to Wyatt's admittance of being babysitter-less, if that was even a word.. "I'm sure Natalie won't mind taking William for a bit." Natalie, the babysitter, was probably one of the sweetest girls Kate had ever known.. she'd been babysitting Jack for only a few weeks, but the boy absolutely adored her, and that was really all Katharine needed to know in order to hand Jack over to her for a couple of hours. "Can you boys help me clean up?" Her expression and tone of voice changed within an instant as she spoke to the kids.. it was bright, friendly, and terribly cheerful.. Kate was an expert at hiding emotions.. this was just another one of those occasions. It only took a few minutes for her and the boys to finish cleaning up the blanket and everything, and once they'd finished, Kate stood up.. with the bag of toys in one arm, and a very sleepy Jack in the other. Offering Wyatt a wide smile, Kate motioned to the parking lot. "Let's rock and roll." [continued here.]
