Long, slow strides carried her across the parking lot and towards the door of the club. She let out a sigh, and then opened the door. The hot air from inside hit her hard, almost taking her breath, and the strobe lights caught her off-guard, but she entered nonetheless. She knew Luke was somewhere behind her, or at least he was supposed to be. But right now, fun was her general idea.
As she moved across the floor, she acknowledged a few people, and the finally found her place at the bar where she ordered a drink. A young man, seeming to be around her own age of 25, sat near her, beginning a slow conversation, his speech slurred from a bit too much to drink. She still conversed, ending in him inviting her onto the dance floor. She nodded before answering. "Just one second..." she called over the music.

Luke had alway`s loved his old Ford truck, a rustic blue pick up that looked as if it were made long before. But the problem was with the older vehicles was, they never seemed to work properly. So here he was, crawling at barely two miles per hour into the parking lot of a bar he desperately hoped that Jeni had chosen.Insomnia it was called , and at the name Luke let out a dry chuckle. With the last of the truck`s energy, he maneuvered it into a parking spot open right before the door.
With a gentle sigh, he got out, the truck door squeaking shut behind him. With careful, measured steps he headed toward the entrance. As he opened the door, he cast his dark azure gaze around, trying to locate Jeni. After wading through the many people, he spotted her at the bar and went over to her."Hey." he greeted with a small smile.

She offered an almost sympathetic smile. "Hi...Luke, he asked me to dance. I'm going to. I'll be back in just a few minutes." she said with soft tones as she took the hand of the man next to her and let him lead her onto the dance floor.
Dancing was something she loved. She let her arms fall around his neck as they danced, him whispering something in her ear. She laughed lightly and shook her head. The song changed, but she continued dancing, hoping Luke wouldn't mind. It's not like something was going on between the two of them...she didn't even know if they could be called "friends".

With a slightly disgruntled look, that he disguised easily and quickly, he nodded and watched as she went to the dance floor, then turned back around toward the bar and sat down on a stool two seats away from Jeni`s. Ordering a bottled beer he sat back and waited to be served.Hey, it wasn`t like they were friends, just acquaintances, that were extremely bored and needed to go somewhere.Hell, he would not be surprised if he did not see her the rest of the night. He would not blame her.
His beer arrived and he took a grateful sip. When the song ended, he was not aware that she hadn`t come back, his thumb nail scratching at the bottle label. No one classified the fun they had to have, now did they ? Luke took another sip and let his dark gaze fall over the crowds of people.

Dancing, it was a release for her, almost a get away. Until someone pressured her a little too much, to go a little to far. Her partner, at that point, was doing just that. "I said no...now knock it off." she said with firm tones as she pushed him away and moved towards the door. The man followed her, grabbing her arm and pulling her close. "I said, go to hell!" she said loudly as she attempted to pull away, but the larger male kept her from it. She tore away from him and moved towards the other side of the bar, but the drunken male kept up at the act of "chasing" her. "Listen, I said lay off, I'm not into that."

Maybe he wasn`t having a blast, but sitting at the bar was at least two times better than sitting in his cramped apartment above the diner wondering about the next shipment he had to order. The sound of raised voices from the dance floor did not worry him much at all, it was a bar after all and bar fights were a pretty common thing in bars, at least that is what all the limited bar movies Luke had watched in his life-time had told him. But when he began to recognize the voice, although just barely, a protective flame began to flare in his chest and his dark indigo gaze, that was getting darker by the minute, was anxiously searching the bar for the source of the disturbance. Finally, he could see the culprit, a large man chasing after the girl he sort of came here with. After hearing her tell the man to 'get the hell away.' more or less, and watching the guy pretty much ignore the statement, Luke decided, or rather Luke`s protective streak, decided to stop this.
He got up from his stool, his six foot frame looking rather imposing. The man, lunged for Jeni, and at that same moment Luke stepped right in front of him, making the man plow right into Luke instead. Shoving him off, Luke took a few steps back, thinking the problem done but staying where he was in between the two instead, was rather surprised to be met with a flying fist right in the side of his jaw.Well after that he saw red, and threw a underhand punch right into the guy`s stomach, listening with satisfaction to the man`s groan of pain."Leave her be." Luke growled, in a timbre so low that it was almost unheard, and yet it could have been the loudest sound in the bar, and was uttered in an eerily calm voice. But the man did not know when to stop and threw another punch, this time nailing Luke in the stomach.
The pain was white hot and sent a cold river of anger down his spine. With a low growl, Luke lunged at the man, throwing his fist into the side of the man`s jaw.The man fought right back, his fist connecting soundly with Luke`s right eye, making Luke stagger ."Son of a.." he roared, but was momentarily put off, and the man made several more attacks, cutting Luke`s lip and giving him several more cuts to the point where his face was covered with blood, the man having hit Luke in the nose at his last jab. That was the last straw and Luke grabbed the struggling man`s collar and dragged him to the door, sweat mixing with the blood on his face. Shoving him out the door, Luke was once more assaulted, the guy was obviously drunk and angry, not a very good combination, as Luke sustained many more minor injuries to his face, and some bruises that were sure to surface the next morning on his stomach. But Luke prevailed and with a very sound punch the man was stunned.
Panting Luke stood, glaring at the man, his eyes so dark a shade of blue they looked almost black. The drunk man staggered off, slurring curse words as he went.Luke stood, unsure what to do.He certainly did not want to go back inside, but he was a bit dizzy and knew he could not walk home...and he had left his truck somewhere..Plus he had a few bottles of beer in him, though he was not drunk, it was probably not wise to drive.Lifting a hand he wiped at his face with the back of it, pulling in a hissing breath when it stung. His right eye was already starting to swell shut, and he had multiple cuts upon his face.
